Study of Bioinformatics and Systems Biology

Bioinformatics is focusing on computational analysis of biological data. It is an essential competence, as almost all biomedical research today involves the use of bioinformatics.

In contrast to the past focus on single genes or proteins, systems biology focuses on understanding entire biological systems—such as protein complexes, metabolic pathways, or gene regulatory networks.

The Bioinformatics and Systems Biology studies are highly interdisciplinary, combining knowledge from fields such as molecular biology, genetics, computer science, mathematics, and statistics.

The Systems Biology Laboratory @ FI offers a collection of courses related to bioinformatics and systems biology at all levels: bachelor, master, Ph.D. The courses are offered in the frame of the bachelor study programme Informatics, specialization Bioinformatics and Systems Biology, and in the frame of the master study programme Artificial intelligence and data processing, specialization Bioinformatics and Systems Biology.
